A pioneer musician and educator in Singapore, Alex is one of the early recipents of the Cultural Medallion. He is one of those highly skilled musicians who can perform classical, Jazz and Pop music with ease, not to mention arranging, improvising and composing.Alex has been pivotal in promoting the classical guitar to flourish at a time when the instrument began to gain popularity. Through the Singapore Classical Guitar Society, Alex has acted as the impresario to bring many world-renowned guitarists to play in Singapore.As the conductor of GENUS, Alex has transcribed and arranged many pieces, many of which are gems in the guitar orchestra’s repertoire.

B Sc, M A (Instructional Design and Technology), Grad Dip BA, Dip Multimedia Producer, Performance Cert TCL.James was a Senior Lecturer at Singapore Polytechnic (SP). He has held several positions including Manager, Industry and University Alliance, School of Digital Media and Infocomm Technology; member of the Course Management Team, Diploma in Music and Audio Technology. He has taught in subjects ranging from multimedia authoring, object oriented programming, web development to music theory.James has been active in research and development projects. These included e-learning applications, online bookstore, blog shop and a Livescribe Smart Pen application to teach ear training and music theory. He has regularly published articles in the Journal of Teaching Practice while in SP.An avid guitar player, James is rooted in the classical tradition. However, he much enjoys the fluidity afforded by Jazz improvisational techniques. He has been teaching guitar since 1996 and conducted guitar ensembles at junior colleges. He also taught Entrepreneurship and Business Opportunity at Singapore Polytechnic.
MUSIC PRODUCER ¦ SOUND ARTIST ¦ GUITARISTA Bachelor of Arts (Hons) degree holder in Music and Music Technology with First class honours, James first embarked on formal music education in 2006 under Singapore Polytechnic’s Diploma in Music and Audio Technology. Having gained industrial experience as an Audio Editor, Film Score composer and Sound Designer for documentaries and films whilst working in the audio-post production industry, he also performed as a professional guitarist, working alongside prominent Singapore music directors such as Babes Conde and Bang Wenfu.In 2011, James read Music and Music Technology in the UK on two scholarships from the Media Development Authority of Singapore (MDA) and Keele University. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) with First class honours, specialising in digital sonic arts and musicology. Since then, he has staged three successful sonic arts productions in Singapore for festivals such as The Singapore Biennale and The Substation’s Septfest. He has also worked with prolific theatre company, The Theatre Practice, for the production of soundtracks for the 2014 musical “If There’re Seasons”.Currently an independent music producer, sound artist and guitarist, James is working with several up and coming singer-songwriters such as Gareth Fernandez and ReyzaHamizan, whilst continuing his research on sonic arts installations and musicology.
